Annapurna · Treks
14 days · Moderate · up to 4,130 m
Walk from Pokhara's rice terraces through rhododendron forest and Gurung villages into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a glacial amphitheatre ringed by Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli, with a sunrise at Poon Hill on the way.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal's most spectacular Himalayan adventures, offering breathtaking views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli and the surrounding peaks. The trek passes through charming mountain villages, lush forests, terraced fields, waterfalls and natural hot springs before reaching the magnificent Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres.
Our route links the Ghorepani Poon Hill sunrise with the classic Sanctuary trail, so you see the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges from the ridge before walking deep into the heart of the range. We finish with a soak in the Jhinu Danda hot springs.
Right Path is based in Lakeside, Pokhara, and the Annapurna region is home ground for our guides: this is the trek we run most often.
A moderate trek with long stone staircases (the famous Chhomrong steps). Good general fitness is enough; no technical climbing.
Our team meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfers you to your hotel in Thamel. In the evening we brief you on the trek, check your gear and sort out any last purchases.
A scenic 7-hour tourist-bus ride along the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers to Pokhara. Evening stroll along Phewa Lake in Lakeside, where our office is.
A 1.5-hour drive to Nayapul, then a gentle walk along the Bhurungdi Khola past Birethanti to the village of Tikhedhunga.
The famous 3,000-step climb to Ulleri, then forest of rhododendron and oak to Ghorepani, a village of lodges on a ridge.
A pre-dawn climb to Poon Hill for sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre, then along a forested ridge to Tadapani.
Down through forest and across the Kimrong Khola, then up to Chhomrong, the last permanent Gurung village before the Sanctuary.
Down the Chhomrong steps, across the Chhomrong Khola and into the Modi Khola gorge, through bamboo and rhododendron forest.
Past Dovan and Himalaya Hotel, with waterfalls pouring off the cliffs, to Deurali at the edge of the tree line.
Through the narrow gateway into the Sanctuary to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700 m), then up the glacial moraine to Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded by a ring of 7,000 and 8,000-metre peaks.
Watch first light hit Annapurna I, then retrace the trail down the Modi Khola gorge to Bamboo.
Back up to Chhomrong and down to Jhinu Danda, where natural hot springs by the river ease tired legs.
An easy walk along the Modi Khola to Siwai, then a jeep back to Lakeside for a well-earned shower.
Drive or take a 25-minute flight back to Kathmandu. Free afternoon and a farewell dinner with the team.
Free time for souvenir shopping before we drop you at the airport three hours before your flight home.

You don't need technical skills, but you should be comfortable walking 5 to 7 hours a day with a light daypack. Regular hiking, running, cycling or stair-climbing for 6 to 8 weeks before the trip makes a big difference.
Spring (March to May) brings rhododendron forests in bloom; autumn (October to December) has the clearest mountain views. Winter is cold but quiet and still very doable on lower routes; June to September is monsoon.
Our itineraries climb gradually and include acclimatisation days. Your guide checks your oxygen saturation each evening. Drink 3 to 4 litres of water a day, avoid alcohol, and tell your guide about any headache, nausea or dizziness straight away.
Travel insurance covering emergency helicopter evacuation up to the highest altitude of your trek is required. Please send us a copy before departure.
Carry Nepali rupees for the trail: ATMs are only in towns. Most teahouses sell Wi-Fi and charging; a local SIM (Ncell or NTC) works on much of the route.
Teahouses are simple, family-run lodges with twin rooms and shared bathrooms. Menus run from dal bhat to pasta and pancakes; dal bhat is the best value and comes with refills.
Easier and lower. ABC tops out at 4,130 m against 5,364 m for EBC, and there are no flights to depend on. The main challenge is the long stone staircases.
Yes. From Pokhara, skipping Poon Hill, it can be done in 7 days. Ask us and we will tailor it.
Yes. Every trip runs as a private trek on the dates you choose, as well as on our fixed group departures. Private trips cost the same per person for two or more travellers.
Our own government-licensed guides from the Annapurna and Everest regions. Most have more than ten years on the trails and speak good English.
Your guide carries a first-aid kit and an oximeter and is trained to recognise altitude sickness. If you need to descend, we arrange it immediately, including a helicopter evacuation through your insurance if necessary.
Send an enquiry with your dates. We confirm availability, then take a 20% deposit to secure your place; the balance is paid on arrival in Nepal by card, bank transfer or cash.
Refunds are a share of the total trip price. Permit and flight costs already paid to third parties can't be refunded. You can transfer your booking to another date or person free of charge up to 30 days before departure.
